Volunteer Information: Birthday Display Person

Job Description:

    Purpose of Position: To inform the public about the cultural or historic importance of various days of the year by highlighting fatuous people on their birthday, or by showcasing interesting days or official weeks, by organizing related books, videos, etc. that can be displayed each day.

Qualifications: Have an interest in finding out what is happening in a particular week by looking at various reference tools at the library. Have an ability to look up books by subject using the library's computer catalog, and an ability to locate them on the shelves. Must be a well‑organized and reliable person.

Responsible to: Branch Librarian

Responsibilities.

  • Come in once a week and spend time researching events/celebrations/birthdays for the coming week.
     
  • Locate library materials that relate to those events/celebrations/birthdays, and pull them from the shelves.
     
  • Arrange the materials by the day they should be displayed so that Library staff will be able to easily put them out each morning.

     Time Commitment: Approximately 2 hours per week for at least 3 months.

    Benefits of Volunteering: Learning interesting facts about the days of the year. Interacting with Library staff. Helping to inform fellow citizens.


    Grounds for Termination: Inability to perform tasks proficiently; failure to fulfill time commitment; failure to maintain confidentiality.
