Volunteer Information: Book Buddy Program Coordinator

Job Description
    Purpose of Position: To coordinate the "Book Buddy" program, which provides library materials to housebound individuals.

Qualifications:
    Ability to work well with Library staff Volunteers, patrons and staff at various county facilities.  Ability to work independently.Excellent written and oral communications skills.Good organizational skills. Ability to travel countywide to facilities and events.  Public speaking skills a plus.

Responsible to: Library Director

Responsibilities.

  1. Market the "Book Buddy" program to the general public and to identified groups and facilities working with senior citizens, the housebound, etc.
  2. Recruit Volunteers
    to take library materials to "Book Buddy" participants.
  3. Arrange for police
    to run a criminal background cheek on all interested Volunteers.
  4. Match each participating patron with a volunteer.
  5. Aid in training of volunteers
  6. In conjuction with a Librarian, make readers advisory materials available to patrons and volunteers.

Time Commitment: Three to four hours commitment per
week for a minimum of one year.

Grounds for Termination:
    Inability to perform job-related tasks proficiently; unacceptable customer service; abuse of library privileges; failure to maintain confidentiality- or failure to fulfill time commitment.
